Our Plan for 2023!

Hello, Lovely Teal Deers,

First, an apology. 2022 was a difficult year for many people, us included, and after the 1k Word Herd competition, we collectively decided that we needed to take some time to recuperate. We still maintained the lovely Slack community that remains our beating heart, but we only put out two collections.

Now it’s 2023, and we are back and excited to carry on with our work. We thought it would be a good idea to let you know what exciting stuff we have going on and coming up!  

We also welcomed Jenna Harvie onto our board. Jenna has been a longtime editor for the press and has been a member from our inception. 

1KWHC 2023

We love running our annual competition and it helps pay to keep us going. Registrations for the 1KWHC 2023 will run from March 1st until April 1st, and the competition itself will run from April 10 – 16th. As usual, there will only be 300 slots, so make sure you enter when registrations open.

Future Competitions

There will be a second competition this year. We know that people love participating in the 1KWHC, we love running it, AND we wanted to do another for a good reason. What reason, you ask?! Well, we want to start paying the people that we publish. So all of the money that we make after the prize fund is shared out will go towards paying authors for our next collection. 

Future Collections

Our next charity collection! We are toying around with some ideas of potential themes, so keep your eyes peeled for news on it. What we do know is that we will be paying authors for their work this time around. 

Paying authors has always been a milestone that we wanted to get to as a press, and we think that another competition could be a really great way of achieving funding.

We look forward to reading all of the amazing stories you have to show us this year.
