Beneath Strange Stars SFF Collection Lineup!

Greetings from the future/past/alternate timeline!

We challenged you to alarm us with your apocalypses, dazzle us with your dystopias, and fascinate us with your fantasy stories and boy, did you deliver! Below, we present the lineup for the upcoming Sci-Fi, Spec Fic, and Fantasy collection, Beneath Strange Stars.

How we got here

We began in September with a call for submissions to writers to help us create a collection of Sci-Fi, Spec Fic, and Fantasy stories and poems to benefit the Association for Science Education.

We knew the response would be huge, so our editorial team consisted of four curators and eight additional editors, all of whom were absolutely integral to the success of this project thus far. The curators include Alex Hareland, Callum Colbeck, David G. Clark, and Joe Butler. The editors include: Sarah Linders, Lyle Enright, Camden Collins, Chris H, Zelda Echternacht, Eric Franco, Hannah Hulbert, and Katie Conrad.

We have a few goals with this project: To support the Association for Science Education with a fantastic story collection, to give every writer who submitted a piece the opportunity to receive feedback and improve their submission before judging, and to put out some mind blowing new Sci-Fi, Spec Fic, and Fantasy stories and poems.

From September until the end of October, we worked with the authors (and each other) to mentor, edit, and judge. As with our previous collections, we paired every interested writer with an editor, who worked with them to create the strongest piece they could moving forward. The editor scored the final piece from 1 to 10, and passed it on to a second scorer from the curators team. The average of the two scores became the piece’s final score.

We were blown away by the quality of the submissions to this collection! We received 115 fantastical stories by the end of the call for submissions and so many delivered wonderful and innovative pieces from across the genres.

We want to thank the #tldrwriters community for your stories and support while we curated a fantastic lineup of new voices. This collection is the work of hundreds of hours thus far, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.
